GIVING WITH THE YMCA

THE Y IS A CAUSE-DRIVEN ORGANIZATION
FOCUSED ON 3 KEY AREAS:

YOUTH
DEVELOPMENT

HEALTHY
LIVING

SOCIAL
RESPONSIBILITY

Make giving local your legacy. See your support lift the community. It’s life-changing for neighborhood kids, and for you, too.

We believe a strong community can only be achieved when we invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors. Our programs, services and initiatives enable youth to realize their potential, offer families ways to have fun together, empower people to be healthier in spirit, mind and body, welcome and embrace newcomers and help foster social responsibility.

We know that lasting personal and social change comes about when we all work together.

With your support, you are helping the Anaheim Family YMCA provide youth with scholarships to vital YMCA programs so they can grow strong in character, creativity, and confidence.

STORIES OF KIDS

FROM THE ANAHEIM FAMILY YMCA

FUTURE FACILITY

OF THE ANAHEIM FAMILY YMCA

The Y is a leader in helping all people lead healthier, happier lives. Phase 2 of the Y Community Complex will add a new building, pickleball courts, a street hockey rink in partnership with the Anaheim Ducks, and an innovative air-nasium to reach thousands more residents of every age and background by adding areas for trending activities like pickleball and street hockey.

The Y Community Complex Phase 2 will impact an additional 12,000 NEW members. Revenue will strengthen the Y’s future growth and provide support to underserved residents. Together, we’ll connect people through shared interests, strengthen families, and help people live longer, healthier lives.

The Anaheim YMCA’s Capital Campaign is a testament to the dedication of the Anaheim community, ensuring that we are always Building Brighter Futures for generations to come. Your support is at the heart of our mission to empower individuals and families beyond our walls and beyond Anaheim.

WE BUILD PEOPLE

ANNUAL SUPPORT CAMPAIGN
2023-2024

Goal: $500,000

Every year, YMCA’s across the country engage their largest throng of volunteers to conduct the most important, and impactful, adult program that any YMCA can offer: The  Annual Support Campaign. The Y Campaign is an intense, short term (4-8 weeks) fund raising drive during which YMCA supporters from all corners of the Anaheim Family YMCA service area, and from every program offered by the YMCA, go out into their communities to share their “personal Y-story”, and ask for the community’s financial support of the YMCA.

The funds raised through the Y Campaign make it possible to provide financial assistance for YMCA  programs  to children, and – more and more – families and homeless adults who cannot afford even the nominal program fees charged by the Y. Campaign funds also enable us to keep our national YMCA financial assistance promise, which simply states that “No one is turned away due to the inability to pay.”

For more than 112 years, the Anaheim Family YMCA has been a vital partner in community ‘build back’ efforts during and after local crises. We still are in the post pandemic era. But we can’t do it alone. Won’t YOU be a part of that effort this year?

Please say ‘YES’ when a YMCA volunteer calls upon you to give to and/or help Campaign for your Anaheim Family YMCA as 2023 draws to a close. For more information or to volunteer on the YMCA 2024 “WE BUILD PEOPLE” Annual Support Campaign, contact Rikki Bains at  rbains@anaheimymca.org

THE ESPING CAMP

ENDOWMENT FUND

Instilling values in youth has been a tradition at the Anaheim Family YMCA since its first Hi-Y Clubs in 1911 and its first camping season in the summer of 1924.

Today, more than nine decades after its first camp at Camp Osceola, the Y continues to bring the camp experience to more than 350 youth and teens each year.

Camp is a life-changing experience that deserves to be known by every child. In order to ensure the timeless gift of camp for all generations, we proudly announce The Alden & Linda Esping Endowment Fund.

Our goal is to raise $2 million over the next five years, which will create opportunities for more kids like never before. As the camp endowment grows, so will our ability to support young campers without the need for annual fundraising. The Alden & Linda Esping Camp Endowment Fund will ensure that YMCA Camp continues into perpetuity for those who truly need it. This is a secure fund. The principal will stay intact, and the interest alone will provide camperships and expanded camp leadership programming.

ALDEN & LINDA ESPING

You can’t think of camp without thinking of Alden and Linda Esping. They have provided over 100 years of combined service to the community.

It is with honor and gratitude that we announce the Alden and Linda Esping Camp Endowment Fund. Thank you for honoring the Espings and the tradition of camp we hold so dear.

WHAT’S YOUR STORY?

What impact has YMCA camp had on your life? We’d love to hear about it. Please feel free to share your story with us — and inspire others in the process, or if you want more information how the Camp Endowment fund works, contact Brent Finlay at bfinlay@anaheimymca.org or call 714.635.9622. PLANNED GIVING

Planned giving is a powerful way to make a difference and leave a legacy. Your planned gift to the YMCA will ensure its life-changing to impact future generations.

Anyone who makes a planned gift to the Anaheim Family YMCA becomes a member of our exclusive Heritage Club. Members will receive an invitation to the annual Heritage Club Dinner, recognition in the YMCA Annual Report and the Heritage Club programs, membership memento, and courtesy mailings of YMCA publications.

Being a Heritage Club member is important because:

  • It generates a stable flow of charitable income to secure YMCA programs for future generations
  • It promotes long-term planning to help maintain vital YMCA programs
  • It protects principal amounts, even during economic fluctuations

TYPES OF PLANNED GIVING

Endowments can be made by either an outright gift of cash or other property, or through the use of planned giving techniques. Planned giving involves including the Anaheim Family YMCA in your overall financial and estate plan. This can often lead to substantial benefits to both the donor and the Y, including reducing or eliminating income, estate, capital gains, and gift taxes.

There are many different types of planned gifts – some offer an income stream to you for life, others may help you control the method or timing in which assets are passed to your heirs. Check with your tax or legal adviser to find out which one might be right for you.

WILLS

An easy way to help the Anaheim Family YMCA increase its endowment fund is to name us in your will, after you have made sure that your family and friends are well taken care of.

This has several advantages:

  • Charitable gifts made through your will are free of estate tax
  • A charitable bequest may place your estate in a lower tax bracket
  • You may specify that your bequest to the Anaheim Family YMCA be used for general purposes or for a particular area of interest (camping, or sports, for example).

Once you notify the Anaheim Family YMCA of your bequest intention, you qualify for membership in the Heritage Club.

To make a bequest to the Anaheim Family YMCA, the following language will be helpful to your attorney: I give, devise, and bequeath to the Anaheim Family YMCA (a California Corporation), located at 240 S. Euclid St., Anaheim, CA 92802, (here insert the amount or percentage of money, or describe the personal property or real estate) to be used for the general purposes of said association.

OTHER METHODS

There are a variety of trusts and other vehicles for making a gift from your estate to the Anaheim Family YMCA. Each has different benefits, ranging from reduced taxes to providing you and/or your heirs an income stream for life. In some cases, the benefit to making a gift actually outweighs the cost to the heirs because of the tax savings.

RETIREMENT PLANS

Did you know that your retirement plan benefits are facing double taxation? If you leave the
assets to your heirs, you’ll generate “income in respect to a decedent.” So not only is the amount diminished by estate taxes, but your heirs will also have to pay income tax on it!

A gift of your retirement plan also has several benefits:

  • Naming us the primary beneficiary avoids ALL income and estate taxes.
  • Your estate gets partial savings when you give us a specific amount before giving family the remainder.
  • Naming us the contingent beneficiary allows for greater flexibility.
  • Donating retirement plan assets could be the most cost-effective gift you can make said association.

FOR MORE INFORMATION

Our planned giving staff will be happy to answer your questions and provide you more information about various gift options. Contact Brent Finlay at bfinlay@anaheimymca.org  or call 714.635.9622 and check with your personal tax or legal adviser about which options might be right for you.
