Every year, the Anaheim Family YMCA Women’s Auxiliary honors one sixth grade student from 36 Anaheim Achieves after school sites for demonstrating exceptional service, leadership, and volunteerism towards their school, peers, family, and community.

Students are nominated by principals, teachers, fellow students and are asked to write short essays on how they have or are currently impacting their community and why it is so important to give back and serve others.
Viktoria Silva, a student at Roosevelt Elementary, shared her thoughts on why it is important to serve the community. The world will be a better place if others serve the community. It feels good to serve and it’s especially nice when someone smiles and says thank you after you help them.
During the ceremony, students were surprised with two Disneyland Resort tickets that were presented by Jill Bolton, Director of Corporate Citizenship for the Disneyland Resort and Anaheim Family YMCA Board Chair.
Certificates were also handed to each award recipient by YMCA Women’s Auxiliary member Irene Pfeifer, who has been involved with the event since its inception.
“It’s amazing to see how every single one of these students is so unique and they each have something special to offer,” said Pfeifer. “I want to say thank you for inspiring and reminding us how important it is that we work together to make our community stronger. The future of our community is in great hands.”
