Angelina started volunteering for the Anaheim Family YMCA Swim Program two summers ago. Her younger siblings were both enrolled in swim lessons and she watched them not only learn life lessons that they would carry with them for the rest of their lives, but also watched them learn to be excited and comfortable in a pool environment.
I knew I wanted to be a part of the [swim] program right away and asked about volunteering. I fell in love with the atmosphere almost immediately.”
As a volunteer, Angelina assisted in teaching the swim skills the students were taught by their instructor to ensure each student was getting enough “one-on-one” time.
Being a part of the student’s positive experience in a program where they are able to exercise, collaborate with peers and most importantly, have fun, motivated me to continue my volunteer work with the Y. Being a positive role model in the kid’s lives and seeing them happily come back for multiple sessions where they learned more and more truly brings happiness to me knowing that I was a part of their progression.”
