COVID-19 Response Update From Our President & CEO

As we continue to navigate uncharted territory, these times can be unsettling, but that is why the Y is here.

Last week, in order to ensure the safety of our participants, staff and families from COVID-19, we suspended all programming. Looking for ways to still support our community, we identified one of the biggest gaps that these school and program closures are causing: food insecurity. Many families depend on meals provided by schools and after-school programming to feel confident that their children are not going to bed hungry.

With the help of many community partners, staff and volunteers, the Anaheim Family YMCA has been going out into the community and serving over 1,000 free meals a day to families who, during this unprecedented time, need additional support. We have also received donated games and books that have been handed out at our 7 “Grab & Go” meal locations. Families can also pick up hygiene kits and at-home activity/resource packets.

Next week, we will increase our number of meals available to 2,400 between our 7 “Grab & Go” locations, which run from 11:00am-12:30pm. We will also be opening 17 additional locations where we will be serving 2,550 Supper Meals daily from 4:30pm-5:30pm.

We are so grateful to be able to help in any and every way we can. We remain light in our spirit, but never our actions. We are in this together. A big thank you to Preferred Meals, SunRich Foods International, Anaheim Library, West America, Disney Cast Members and Y Staff.
