Fit-N-Fun Family Day
Anaheim Achieves promotes fitness and fun for the whole family.
Grapes covered in yogurt and giant soccer balls flying through the air, water-filled sponges soaking kids’ heads, and kids hopping around in potato sacks. These were just a few scenes from the Anaheim Achieves’ second annual Fit-N-Fun Family Day held on Saturday, Sept. 23 at Pearson Park in Anaheim.
The event kicked off at 11:30 a.m. with an Anaheim Achieves student parade. Then, more than 300 community youth, volunteers and program partners enjoyed a day of fun fitness activities including a Walk-A-Thon, water games, relay races, yoga, soccer drills, potato sack races and a grapes-covered-in-yogurt toss.
One highlight of the event was the Olympics Fun Zone, in which students from the Anaheim Achieves after-school program competed for the Fit-Cup. Congratulations to students from Edison Elementary School for demonstrating their fitness and taking home the trophy.
Anaheim Achieves students also had something to celebrate when they beat the staff 17-11 in a Staff vs. Students softball game.
Throughout the day, kids and families had the opportunity to check for diabetes, bone density, blood pressure and body fat thanks to free health screenings provided by St. Joseph Hospital, Prospect Medical and Western Medical Center. Healthy snacks and refreshments were provided by Hometown Buffet and other participating groups. Additional partners included the City of Anaheim, Cypress College, Seals on Wheels, 7 Day Dental, West African Dance and Kundalini Yoga.
